Competency Based Questions – Class X Science (With Download Link)

Competency Based Questions (CBQs) are an important part of the Class X Science board examination. These questions are designed to test students’ understanding, analytical thinking, and application skills instead of simple memorization. Boards like the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) have increased the focus on competency-based questions to promote concept-based learning.

CBQs include case study-based questions, assertion–reason questions, source-based questions, diagram-based questions, and numerical problem-solving. These questions are framed mainly from the syllabus prescribed by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT). Therefore, students must thoroughly read and understand their NCERT textbooks.

In Physics, chapters like Electricity and Light often contain application-based numericals. In Chemistry, topics such as Chemical Reactions and Carbon Compounds include reasoning-based questions. In Biology, Life Processes and Heredity are commonly asked in case-study formats.

To score well, focus on conceptual clarity, practice sample papers, and revise diagrams and experiments carefully. Competency-based questions are easy to solve if your basics are strong.
